Larry Holladay Obituary - 2024 (2024)

Larry S. Holladay, 89, passed from this life and joined his sweet wife on April 19, 2024, at home in Tucson, Arizona. Memorial services for Larry will be Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at the Pima Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 49 S. 100 W., in Pima, Arizona. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Pima Cemetery.

Larry was born January. 9, 1935, in Pima, to Charles Stanley and Lytha Olive (Cluff) Holladay. He attended grade school in Pima and graduated from Pima High School. Following high school, Larry attended Eastern Arizona College and Arizona State University (Tempe), graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree. He went on to earn his Master of Educational Administration degree from the University of Arizona.

On July 18, 1956, Larry married Susan Ann Rogers of Safford, Arizona, in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. They enjoyed 67 wonderful years together. Larry and Susan started their life in Douglas, Arizona, where Larry received his first teaching position. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Tucson, where Larry held multiple teaching and administrative positions. He retired as an elementary school principal after 32 years of service.

Larry was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served faithfully with full dedication. He was an excellent speaker and storyteller, regularly addressing various church congregations and enthusiastically entertaining his friends and family. His talent to weave gospel truths into life lessons are repeated by many to this day.

In 1990, Larry served alongside Susan on a full-time mission in Portugal (Lisbon South) and the Cape Verde Islands. This experience served as a great source of happiness and joy in their lives and was the catalyst for uplifting stories and lifelong relationships.

Alongside Susan, Larry’s greatest joy was his family, whom he loved dearly and deeply and to whom he provided unwavering support. He is preceded in death by his wife Susan and survived by his four children, Lisa (Dave) Thomas, of Tucson; Rebecca (Jesse) McGee of Sahuarita, Arizona; Elizabeth “Buffy” (James) Avers, of Galena, MO., and Thomas (Jennifer) Holladay of Navasota, Texas, as well as by 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and his brother, Dale (Janice) Holladay. Larry is loved and remembered fondly and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
