A BISHOP'S STORY Illustrating how the treatment of strangers a. foreign land. may influence. their lives, Bishop Bartlett, of the Episcopal church, tells of two young Chi nese students who came to America, and what happened to them.

a Chinese girl who. had been converted to Christianity in her native. land, came to the United States to continue her studies. Unfortunately, she entered a school in which preju: dice was- shown because of her race. She renounced Christianity and returned to China.

The other, Chinese boy, was befriended by an American family in Charleston, became: Christian, returned to China and married a Christian Chinese girl. Four of their, children were educated in the United States, and their family became one -of the most influential in China: One daughter married Sun Yat Sen, founder of the Chinese republic; another married Chiang Ka Shek, China's chief leader today; a third married Kung Hsi, recently finance minister. to China; while a son, Soong Ts Vung, was also finance minister. and represented China in several: international conferences. "The Christian influences which have out from this family," says Bishop Bartlett, are incalculable, and go back to friendliness shown toward Chinese boy in America." QUINTUPLETS' DEBUT Recently: newsreels of the Dionne quintuplet babies of Callander, Ontario, were made by Pathe and are now being shown.

The opportunity to see these famous babies in the world in pictures no doubt be embraced by. millions of people. They are now more than three months old, and the first quintuplets on record. who ever lived more than A few hours. That all five are still alive and well is an amazing fact.

In the news reel mentioned the five girls- Yvonne, Annette, Marie, Cecile and Emillie -are seen being taken from their incubators, washed and dressed, all squaling lustily dur-! ing most of the time they are. shown, which is less than a minfute. Wien: born, the five together weighed only 10 pounds 1 ounce. A few days ago their combined wright was 32 pounds: or more; than three times as much- as they brought into the world. The Canadian government has built a special house for the quintuplets near their home.

where everything necessary will be provided for their health and comfort. The public has: follow-? ed their brief careers with intense interest. and everyone will wish them continued good luck. A BROKEN DOWN HORSE Two years ago a wholesale grocer of Benton. took a fancy, to a supposedly broken down race.

horse named Indian Runner and paid $3,000 for him. Maybe it was a mere whim or gambler's hunch which caused the grocer, A. Woods, to make an investment which most turtmen would have considered unspeakably, foolish. But see what happened. After giving Indian Runner good care.

and a few weeks of rest Woods entered him at Lincoln. Fields, A where he broke the tract record in his first race. Since then The has: virtually monopolized the handicap stakes in the west. on the 4th of July he won for the second consecutive year "the Stars and Stripes handicap at Arlington Park, where he has also won the Inaugural handicap the last two years. His total winnings to date have been 000, not a bad return on a 000 investment.

And he isn't finished yet. All of which goes to confirm the old saying that you can't tell br merely a looking show far a can Jump how fast can run Winchell says Hollywood too many pictures and actors while News of Years Ago (As Chronicled By the Bulletin) 18 YEARS AGO: Wednesday morning at the home of Marshall the bride's became parents, the bride Miss Era of Mr. William Barnett Kent of Saltville, the Rev.
