Bangin’ Bonfire Bacon & Banger Burgers & Sausage Casserole Recipes

Hooray! It’s British Sausage Week and just in time for Guy Fawkes night, (Bonfire Night , Firework Night) which is on the 5th November, tomorrow – no Bonfire night is complete unless it has a few bangers on the menu. I LOVE bonfire night – it’s one of my favourite British events…….it’s all the excitement of fireworks, and the children asking for “a penny for the Guy”as well as all that comfort food of Chilli, Baked Potatoes, Soup and of course the Bangers, which are sausages as well as very loud fireworks!

I usually make a big pot of chilli (Bonfire Chilli with Beef, Chocolate and Pumpkin)for bonfire night, but this year I have decided to branch out and make sausage burgers…….with bacon.The idea came to me as I was sent a lovely hamper of Denhay Farms Spoilt Pig bacon and sausages recently and in an attempt to serve them in a different way, I came up with these lovely little bacon and banger burgers. Spilt Pig sausages and bacon are superb quality and are RSPCA Freedom Food approved, which is the only UK farm assurance scheme to focus solely on improving the welfare of farm animals reared for food. These animals deserve a happy, healthy life. This means providing them with an environment that meets their needs for space, food and water and enables them to exhibit their natural behaviour. I think that is reflected in the taste and flavour of their delicious bacon and sausages.

Not only did I make the bonfire burgers with my porky booty, but I also made a fabulous family recipe forSausage & Apple Casserole with Herb Crusted Dumplings , which you can see over at Great British Chefs.A sausage casserole is a thing of beauty, a hearty dish with bags of flavour that fills the whole family, and if you add some seasonal apples, you are also adding one of your five-a-day to the meal.
