Life with a 4-month-old-baby- feeds, nights and milestones (1)

I can’t quite believe that Azaiah is now a four-month-old baby and as cliche as it sounds, time really has flown. The first few weeks were undoubtedly the most challenging, I found it incredibly difficult to adapt to sleepless nights particularly as I was recovering from having an episiotomy.

From the moment you go into labour to then giving birth and taking your little bundle of joy home, it’s quite literally go time. Life as you know it completely changes and you find yourself in a whole new routine.

This little baby is now completely reliant on you and although it’s taken its toll emotionally at points, it’s the best thing ever.

I spent the first week in tears every day because I was in complete disbelief that he was mine and I just wanted to do everything in my power to ensure I always protect him. It was as if he was too good to be true, but I am now at a stage where I am just taking in every moment and enjoying it so much.

I’ve really appreciated reading other mum’s honest accounts of life with a newborn, and I feel it’s super important to be transparent because it can be hard at times. I’ve tried to be kind to myself throughout the past fourmonths and not hold too many expectations over aspects like bouncing back.

I’ve also tried to make time for a bit of self-care and the little things that I used to love doing before baby like listening to music, admittedly this is hard as Azaiah is a very light sleeper, but I am now enjoying music with him.

I can remember asking friends when their babies sleep regulated because I was struggling with the nights but since hitting the four-month mark, Azaiah has been going longer in between feeds.

When he does wake, I have tried to normalise being up in the early hours by putting something nice on the TV quietly while he has a feed. He’s come such a long way already and it’s so amazing to see. Signs of teething have started to appear, and he has been trying to sit up. He’s also taken so well to tummy time; in fact, I think he would start crawling now if he could.

The bits I’ve enjoyed the most in the last fourmonths is seeing his beautiful features develop as well as seeing his first smile. I love making him smile and having little chats with him. He’s also on the verge of laughing now and has made many attempts at doing this already.

I got excited recently because he held a toy on his own and in true mum fashion, I had to capture it as well as every other mini milestone like attempts to roll onto his side.

Life truly is magical with Azaiah in it, my mum told me that you won’t remember life before him, and I don’t. He truly is my biggest achievement, and he has brought me true happiness.
