B4 SUNDAY, JANUARY 26, 2003 OBITUARIES FALLS COURIER Elizabeth Benda (1915-2003) WATERLOO Elizabeth "Pat" Benda, 88, of Davenport, formerly of Waterloo and Clearwater, died Thursday, Jan. 23, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. She was born Jan. 11, 1915, in Tama, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Imholt Whalen. She married George Benda Aug.

16, 1947, in Denver, Colo. He died Oct. 5. 1970. She attended Clark College and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College.

Patten (1917-2003) WATERLOO Helen F. Patten, 85, of Waterloo, Martin A. Nordman WATERLOO Martin A. Nordman, 83, of Friendship Village, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Butler County, of Carl F. and Dorothea Weinberg Nordman. He married Dorothy Repass Axtell in 1965 in Cedar Rapids. Mr.

Nordman graduated from Gates Business College, and was employed as an advance buyer for John Deere for 34 years, retiring in 1981. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. Survivors include: his wife; two stepsons, David (Lynn) Axtell of Waterloo and Doug (Gail) Collins, five grandchildren and eight great nephew, Neil (Connie) Nordman of Waverly; and (Gary) Schnurstein of Waverly. Preceded in death by: a brother, Reginol.

He was born Oct. 17, 1906, in West Albany, N.Y., son of Joseph and Mary Barbieri Sansone. He married Katherine P. Pavich June 20, 1935, in Waterloo. He graduated from East High School in 1926 and worked for 37 years at John Deere, retiring in 1971.

After retirement he worked for the Waterloo Park Board. Mr. Sansone was a 62-year member of Catholic Order of Foresters and Elks Lodge No. 290. Survived by: his wife; a son, Dennis (Nancy) Sansone of Bloomington, and a brother-in-law, Robert Pavich of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: three brothers, Joseph, John and Anthony. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Queen of Peace Parish, St. Mary's Worship Center, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m.
