VINANT will be held in Notre Dame des Neiges Church at 9.30 a.m., Wednesday. Mr.

Vinant, who was in his 58th year, came to Canada in 1921 on the occasion of the CrossCanada tour of the France-Canada exhibition train. Four years later he took up residence in this country and in 1928 he founded his own importing firm. Mr. Vinant became president of the Chambre de Commerce au Canada and at the time of his death was honorary member. addition, he was a director of l'Alliance Francaise and a past delegate of the French in Canada to the Council of French Overseas.

During World War II, he enlisted voluntarily with the French Army in 1939 and in 1942 he reenlisted with the Allies and participated in the landing in France with the rank of Captain. He was decorated with the Cross of the French Legion of Honor and awarded the American Bronze Star Medal. He was also honored as a Member of the Order of the British Empire. He is survived by his wife, the to former Suzanne Dufour; one brother, Jean Vinant; a sister, Miss Gabrielle Vinant, both of Paris, France; a stepson, Claude Boyer and his wife, and their children, Thierry and Corinne. Hylda Newman Mrs. Hylda Newman, wife of F. E. Newman, chairman of the board of Mussens died on Saturday at her home, 2168 Sherbrooke street west. Born in Jamaica, Mrs.

Newman, formerly Hylda co*ke, was a daughter of Hon. Louise A. co*ke, and a granddaughter of Sir Hugh Middleton, of England and India. Educated in London, Mrs. Newman has been a resident of Montreal for the past 30 years.

She was actively interested in the Association for the Help of Retarded Children. She is survived by her husband, Frederick Ernest Newman; one daughter, (Hazel) Mrs. G. N. Goff, of Montreal; three sons, John, of Montreal; Peter, of Shawbridge, and Bruce, of Toronto, and a sister Mrs.

E. MacLaurin, 72, general secretary of the Canadian Council of 4-H Clubs for 21 years before his retirement in 1952, died yesterday in hospital here after a illness. Mr. MacLaurin graduated from the University of Toronto in 1914 and joined the faculty of McGill University's Macdonald College, where he was assistant professor of 1918 animal to science become a when field 'officer with the federal Agriculture Department. He died yesterday after a long illness, at the age of 83. Born in Scotland, Mr. Thornton came to Canada in 1906. He joined St. Lawrence Flour Mills in 1910 as treasurer and held the position retirement in 1937.

Mr. Thornton was associated with Herbert Begg of Toronto in the formation of the Quebec Insurance Exchanges in 1923. The firm later became Shaw Begg and he was vice dent until his retirement in 1955. He was a member of the Saint James's Club, a life member of the MAAA and a former member of the Royal Montreal Golf Club. He is survived by his wife, the former Grace Grier; a son, Robert B.

2 (CP) Rev. Robert Dolbec, 52, vicerector of Laval University, died Saturday after a long illness. Father Delbec started teaching at Laval in 1950 after teaching at the Quebec Seminary where he took a classical course as a student. He was regent of the seminary from 1929 to 1935. The funeral will be held tomorrow and burial will be in the seminary crypt.

Thomas Athanese A funeral service for Thomas Athanse, a member of The Gazette advertising department, who died Saturday, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
