Ledoux DEATH NOTICES ALLEN, Allen Jr. Alva Allen, 80, of Ellenton, FL and formerly of Windsor Locks, the husband of Helen (Metz) Allen, died Wednes(April 14, 1999) in Bradenton, FL. Born in Trumbull, he lived 31 years in Windsor Locks moving to Florida in 1988.

He was a retired employee of Hamilton Standard and an Army veteran of World War I1, where he was proud to have fought in both the Battle of the Bulge and the Invasion of Normandy. Alva was an active member of St. John Lodge in Hartford and a member of O.E.S. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Alva H. Allen and George B.

Allen; two grandchildren, Valiere and Christopher; two sisters, Frances Zewski and Geraldine Kestolecki, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Manchester. Burial will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester. Family and friends may call at the funeral home today, 6-8 p.m.

BEEBE, John E. John E. Beebe, 75, of East Glaston- bury, husband of Alice (Cofiell) Beebe, died Sunday (April 18, 1999) in Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford, son fthe late Olin and Helen McCone Beebe, he lived in Tolland and Rockville as a youth and moved to Glastonbury many years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S.

Army, serving in the European Theater with the 234th Combat Engineers. He served from Normandy Central Europe. He worked for 35 years at Pratt and Whitney, East Hartford, retiring in 1983. Jack was a member of the Glastonbury United Methodist Church and served at one time as the Chairman of the Trustees. He also was given life membership in 1983 by the Goodale Ramaker post 56, American Legion of Glastonbury.

He served as past Commander of the Post in 1956-1957, served as Past Adjutant, past Membership Chairman for over 15 years, Editor of Post Newsletter, for almost 40 years, starting in the 50's, calling the newsletter "The Informer" and recently as the "56 News." Jack also served as Commander of the First District, American Legion in 1965-66 as well as vice Commander of the State of Connecticut. He formed a new American Legion Post in Marlborough in 1966 and was active in the forming of the American Legion Squadron, of which his grandson, Brian, charter member. He served Glastonbury as the Representative to the Soldiers, Sailors and Marine Fund for over 20 years, a member of the Voiture 370, Forty and Eight, Hartford County and Served as the Chef de Gere from 1971-1972. He served as a member of the Dennis Hillman Memorial Team for 18 years, installing New Legion officers as well as initiating new Legion members through out the state. He enjoyed owning and operating a ten-passenger Train on Wheels for the Forty and Eight to participate in "Fun" parades.

He did this with his daughter, Donna as assistant conductor. Jack's love of country and respect for the flag was very important. He also was a member of the AARP Chapter 2010 Glastonbury, a member of the Pratt and Whitney Retirees Club of East Hartford, and a member of the Glastonbury Fire Department Co. 3 for over 35 years, serving the last ten years as a fire policeman. Besides his wife, he leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Francis and Lenore Beebe of Glastonbury; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and David Langan of East Glastonbury; a grandson, Brian Langan of East Glastonbury; his brother, Charles Hirth of Manchester.

He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Olin Francis Beebe; and a sister Lucille (Beebe) Hirth. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at 2:30 p.m. in the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Glastonbury, Burial will follow in Neipsic Cemetery. Brooks, 42, of Tucson, AZ, died suddenly on Sunday, (April 11, 1999) of injuries recieved in a motorcycle accident. He is survived by his wife, Jill Blondin; a son, Nathan Douglas, age and a daughter, Kylie Elizabeth, his parents, Douglas and Elizabeth Brooks of Bloomfield; three brothers, Chris, Alan and Kenneth; many relatives and friends. He lived in Hartford as a youth where he attended Noah Webster and Renbrook Schools. He graduated from the Westtown School in Pennsylvania and Earlham College. Several years in Boston, MA, New Hampshire and Vermont were followed by a move to Arizona to work as a research biologist for the U.S.

Bureau of Reclamation. His interest in Science and Ecology led to graduate studies in Hydrology at the University of Ariona and a career in Civil Engineering. Curwas president and principal engineer of ICON, Consultants in Civil Engineering and Environmental Science. His scientific epertise, high business ethics and interpersonal skills made him a respected professional in the area. He enjoyed rock climbing and outdoor recreation.

He was known for his sence of humor, love of family, zest for life and enjoyment of nature. He was devoted to New Hampshire's lakes and mountains. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 24, at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Bloomfield. CARMEL, Leanore "Lea" (Ivers) Leanore "Lea" (Ivers) Carmel, 91, of Manchester, the widow of David H. Carmel, died Sunday (April 18, 1999), at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Middletown, she lived most of her life in 1 Dalton, MA and the last 26 years in Manchester. She was a longtime member of the Grange in Dalton, MA and for many years was the housekeeper and cook for the Priests at the Church of the Assumption in Manchester. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David I.

and Leslie Carmel of Manchester; two grandsons, Christopher I. and his wife, Pamela Ann Carmel of Manchester, Timothy M. Carmel and his fiancee, Lynne Marie Koras, both of Wethersfield; two great grandsons, Matthew Christopher Carmel and Bryan Michael Carmel; a sister, Doris Hueston of Stamford and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Born in Hartford, Donald was a former resident of Enfield and Stafford Springs. He was an Army Veteran of World War and a member of the AMVETS in Enfield. Donald was employed as a truck driver and later for Enfield School System before retiring several years ago. He was the widower of Helen T. (Dent) Duncan who died in 1972 and is survived by a son, Scott Duncan of Middletown; a daughter, Eleanor Doering of Valdosta, GA; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a longtime companion, Lucille Foisy.

DEATH NOTICES COOK, Alice B. Alice B. Cook, 93, formerly of West Hartford, and of The Gables in Farmington, died Wednesday (April 14, 1999) at Avon Health Center, Avon. Born in Farmington, on April 11, 1906, she was the daughter of Allen B. and Emma L.

(Shepardson) Cooke. She graduated from Williams Memorial Institute in New London, and from Connecticut College for Women in New London in 1927. She earned an M.A. in Religious Education from the Hartford Seminary Foundation in 1930. Beginning during the Depression, she was the director of Religious Education at several churches in Massachusetts and Connecticut: Edwards Congregational Church in Northampton, MA; the First Congregational Church in Bristol, where her ministry continued for 17 years; and at the Elmwood Community Church in West Hartford.

After retiring in 1966, she worked for 15 years in the bookstore at the Hartford Seminary, where she enjoyed frequent contact with her former colleagues. She was a 75 year member of the Grange and a longtime member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and of First Church of Christ Congregational in West Hartford. Throughout her church work, Miss Cook enjoyed a special satisfaction from working with young people. She cared deeply about them and continued to corre-' spond with some of these students until the last few days of her life. She lived a life of faith and gentle grace, and had a special gift for putting people at ease and making them feel unique.

She thus developed many close friendships. In her later years, she reached out in a very personal way to the housekeepers, health aides, nurses and other staff who cared for her with both skill and compassion. Throughout her life, Miss Cook had a strong interest in nature and was very adept at identifying wild flowers and birds. She also was accomplished in many types of handcaft and enjoyed giving them to others. She is survived by her sisters, Ethel L.

Cook and Marion E. Cook of Avon; and Charlotte M. and Walter M. Collins of Durham, NH; and a cousin, Ruth M. Coolidge of Petersham, MA.

She was particularly close to all of her nieces and nephews, Carol B. Cook of Minneapolis, MN; Dr. William B. Cook of Lexington, KY; Barbara J. Goodwin of West Hartford; Richard W.

Collins of Lorton, VA; Marilyn Rachlin of Parkersburg, WV; Gerald A. Collins of Bethlehem, PA; and their families, including 11 grandnieces and nephews. A brother, Rev. Frederick B. Cook of Craigville, MA will be held Saturday, 24, at 3 predeceased her.

A memorial, service p.m. in the chapel of First Church of Christ Congregational, 12 South Main West Hartford. Rev. Lee Ellenwood will officiate, with Rev. Susannah Crolius assisting.

She is survived by a daughter, Maxine Finman and her husband Richard of West Hartford; two grandchildren, Jodi Marks and her husband Evan; and Jonathan Finman and his wife Amanda; and two great grandchildren. He was born in Avon and was a resident of West Hartford for the last 45 years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Hartford Insurance Group Data Processing Department. He was born in Hartford, but lived most of his life in East Hartford, and was employed by Pratt Whitney in East Hartford for 31 years, retiring in 1985, and later worked as Substance Abuse Counselor at Reids Treatment Center, in Avon, and at the Veteran's Home and Hospital, Rocky Hill. Besides his wife of 45 years he leaves a daughter, Gerlinde Stone and her husband Charles; a sister, Annette Dow and her husband Clayton; a brother, Charles Abronze and his wife Theodora; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gilbert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Graham, 68, of East Hartford, wife of Robert L. Graham, died Sunday (April 18, 1999) at Hartford Hospital. She was born in East Hartford on January 16, 1931, daughter of the late Nelson James Kingston and Ivy Pearl (Rice) Kingston, and was a life long resident of the town. She was a 1949 graduate of East Hartford High School. Besides her husband of 47 years, Mrs.

Paul was born in Lowell, MA and lived in East Windsor for 46 years. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. Paul owned and operated Johnson Welding Supply of Hartford, retiring in 1978 and was a member of the Broad Brook Congregational Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Sandra Jefferis of Wilmington, DE and Linda Reuter of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Cynthia Moreland of West Chester, PA, Brian Neild of Wilmington, DE, Christopher Reuter and Meredith Reuter, both of Columbus, OH; two great-grandsons, Ryan and Sean Moreland and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gustavsen was born on October 26, 1919 in Bethlehem, PA, daughter of the late Sinclair Wiggins Chiles and Ruby Mae (Groman) Chiles. She had been a resident of Berlin since 1961, and was a member of Berlin Congregational Church and the Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem, PA. She was raised in Bethlehem, she graduated fron The Preparatory School Moraviare and attended Moravian College. She.

was secretary to the chairman of the Department of Engineering, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA and also worked for the Girl Scouts of America in Allentown, PA. She served as a deacon of Berlin Congregational Church. Mrs. Gustavsen is suvived by two daughters, Betsy Bradley of New Britain; and Heidi Swanson of Berlin; and a son, John C. Gustavsen of Kensington; a sister, Leila C.

Sachs of Greencastle, PA; four grandchildren, Amy K. Swanson West Hartford; David C. Swanson of Berlin; and William G. and Leila F. Bradley of New Britain; and several nieces and nephews.

Jr. Earle F. Hannum, 74, of Copper Drive, Enfield died Sunday (April 18, 1999) at home after a long illness. He was born in Ware, MA, the son of the late Earle F. and Sylvia (Rondeau) Hannum.

He was employed by Hamilton Standard for 20 years, later employed by the State of Connecticut Public Works Department, retiring in 1988. Mr. Hannum was a U.S. Navy World War Veteran; a former member of the American Legion Tanguay McGill Post 80, the AMVETS Post 18, and the VFW Patrick F. Triggs Post 1501.

He was also a former member of the Republican Town Committee, and the Volunteer Thomsonville Fire Department. Mr. Hannum was a memand communicant of Holy Family Church, and was the first Sexton for Holy Family Church. He was also the former Enfield Representative in the Hartford Times, Chevrolet Soap box Derby. Mr.

Hannum is survived by his wife Esther (Radosti) Hannum of Enfield; a son, Earle John Hannum of Kittery, ME; a daughter, Dianne E. Hannum of Winsted; a daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and John Gunther of Winsted; a daughter and son-inlaw, Marian Richard Zytka of Medford, MA; and a daughter, Kathleen Strobel of Stafford. He also leaves six grandchildren, Christopher and John Strobel, Joshua Woods, Jenifer and Jason Gunther, and Matthew Zytka. Mr. Hannum is also survived by a brother, Kenneth Hannum of Spencer, MA; and two sisters, Gloria Vachon of Enfield and Doris Decaro of Nevada; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Helstosky, Jr. died Saturday, (April 17, 1999) at Harborside Health Care Governor's in Simsbury. She was born November 19, 1917 in Troy, NY and had lived in Simsbury for the past 30 years. Mrs.

"Bob" Robert E. "Bob" Jedidian, 70, of Wethersfield died peacefully' on Sunday (April 18, 1999) after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Robin and Gertrude (Gertite) Jedidian and lived in Wethersfield for the last 22 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

Bob is survived by a very dear friend, Holly Jedidian of Newington; a daughter, Kristen Jedidian Healy and her husband Paul of Wethersfield; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Theodore and Lucille Jedidian and Donald and Irene Jedidian, all of Wethersfield; three nieces, Linda Merchant and her husband Richard of Holyoke, MA; Lisa Carr and her husband Christopher of Milton, MA; and Lauren Jedidian of Wethersfield; two grand nephews, Matthew Merchant of Holyoke, MA; and Cody Carr of Milton, MA. George Edwin Huntington 76, of Granby, beloved husband of Anne (Evans) Huntington, Monday (April 19, 1999) died, home. He was born in Ossining, NY, son of the late Edwin H. Huntington, M.D. and Inez (Drake) Huntington. He graduated from Ossining Junior Senior High School and attended Wesleyan University and graduated from New York University.

George served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 328th Infantry Regimen of the 26th Yankee Division as a Medic, and received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He lived in Granby for the past 47 years and was employed at Hamilton Standard for 35 years, before retiring in 1987. He was a member of the South Congregational Church in Granby and a member of the choir. He was a lifemember of Granby Post No.

5847 VFW and a lifemember of the DAV. He was also a member of Radium Lodge in Croton, NY. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Nancy H. Moore of Freehold, NJ; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Nannlisa Huntington of East Hartland, George E. Jr.

and Karen Huntington of Windsor; six grandchildren, Jonathan Moore and Jennifer Moore, both of Freehold, NJ, Susan Conly of West Hartford, Steven Conly of Avon, Karen Baril and Amity Baril, both of East Hartland; and a sister, Doris M. Huntington of Briarcliff Manor, NY. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Thomas Moore; and a daughter-in-law, Earline Huntington. Robert F. Lawler, 89, of Wethersfield, husband of Alice (Casavant) Lawler, died Monday (April 19, 1999) at St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Hartford, son of the late Daniel F. and Maria Byrne Lawler.

He resided in Wethersfield for 45 years. He was an employee of the Travelers Insurance Company for 45. years, retiring in 1972. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War Il and served in the Pacific area.

He was a life member of VFW Post 7827, Wethersfield, and a member of the Iwo Jima Survivors Association. Besides his wife of 58 years, Alice, he leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lori Lawler of Willington; a daughter-in-law, Lawler of West Hartford; grandchildren, wwSusan Michael Lawler of Willington and Patricia Lawler of West Hartford, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, John Edward and Francis J. Lawler. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 22, 9:15 a.m., from the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Rocky Hill, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at Corpus Christi Church in Wethersfield.

LEAHEY, Mae (Biggerstaff) Mae (Biggerstaff) Leahey, 90, of Suffield, died Sunday (April 19, 1999) at home. Born in Suffield, the daughter of the late John and Martha (Edgar) Biggerstaff, she was a lifelong resident.

She was a graduate of Suffield Academy in 1925 and received her teaching degree from Willimantic State Normal School in 1927. She taught in the Sterling and Windsor school systems for a total of 19 years, after which she substituted in the West Suffield School System for many years before retiring. She worked with the cub scouts, was a den mother for many years, and was a member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Suffield for over 75 years. Mrs. Leahey was a past board member and longtime secretary of the Suffield Emergency Aid a member of the AARP and the Suffield Historical Society.

She was the widow of Francis M. Leahey, who was Suffield's first selectman from 1953- 1963. She is survived by two sons and their wives, William and Linda Leahey, and John and Sarah Leahey, all of Suffield; four grandchildren, Ellen Leahey of New Milford, John Leahey, Jean Leahey, Patty Leahey, all of Suffield, three nieces and a nephew. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Elizabethl Biggerstaff, Edith Leahey; and a brother, John W. Biggerstaff.

The funeral will be Saturday, April 24, 2 p.m., at the Nicholson Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East Suffield, with burial in West Suffield Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Friday, 7-9 p.m., and Saturday, 1-2 p.m., at the funeral home. It was Mae's request that donations be made to the First Baptist Church, do Machado Mead, 1262 Hill Street, Suffield, CT 06078..
