In 1924 he founded the Bayer Milk Co. He was the former Chairman of Kenwood Farms, Wethersfield, and retired in 1966. He was a past president and member of the Board of Directors of Congregation Tephereth Israel, New Britain. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Milk Dealers Association, and a member of the Forresters of America. He leaves his wife, Dora (Chorches) Bayer; two sons, Dr.

Alexander E. Bayer of New Britain, and Milton B. Bayer of Newington; six grandchildren, Ernest Bayer, Nancy Bayer, Ricky Bayer, Laurie Bayer Emmons, Debra Bayer, and Joan Lypsic; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be today, 2 p.m., at Congregation Tephereth Israel, 76 Winter New Britain, with interment in Beth Alom Cemetery, New Britain. Victoria Borawiak, 97, of Meriden, died Wednesday (Oct. 25) at Middlesex Memorial Hospital, Middletown, after a long illness. Born in Poland, in 1892, daughter of the late Stanley and Sophie (Pienadz) Blecharczyk, she was the widow of John Borawiak.

She graduated from the School of Midwifery, Chicago, and practiced her profession for years in Union City, and New Britain. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Meriden. She was predeceased by two sons, Judge Myron Borawiak, formerly of Seattle, and Mitchell Borawiak, a U.S. Army veteran of World II, formerly of Meriden.

25) at H.C.A. Medical Center, Port St. Lucie, Fla. She was born in Patton, Maine, and had lived in South Windsor for 20 years, before moving to Florida four years ago. Mrs.

Glidden was employed by Realty world for the past seven years, as a Program Director in Florida. She had been a member of Wapping Community Church, South Windsor, and had been president of the Hartford Board of Realtors. Frank Raymond Landgraf 76, of 25 Fenn Drive, Pleasant Valley, died Wednesday (Oct. 18, 1989) in Clearwater, Fla. He was the husband of Helen (Woodward) Landgraf. Born in Mystic, April 10, 1913, son of the late Frank, and. Alma, (Dewey) Landgraf, he resident of Pleasant Valley for 21 years.

A graduate of Morse Business College, Mr. Landgraf owned and operated an apple farm in Ledyard for 10 years. He was a former SUperintendent of the Stancliff Cove recreation area in Barkhamsted. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Walter F. Landgraf of Pleasant Valley; a daughter, Irene E.

Anna (Cianci) Mozzicato, 86, of 1138 Farmington West Hartford, beloved mother and wife, died Wednesday (Oct. 25) at McLean Home, Simsbury. She was born in Pescara, Italy, came to America, and settled in Meriden, until her marriage i in 1926 to her surviving spouse, Paul Mozzicato.

She then moved to Hartford, where she and her husband opened one of the first supermarkets in Hartford, on Park Street. She also owned and operated the Holiday Card and Gift Shop, New Britain Avenue, which included a substation for the Hartford Post Office. She later moved to West Hartford and had been a resident of West Hartford since 1954. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church, where she served as a chairwoman of various committees and was also a past deacon of her church. Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Antoinette and Robert Grillo of West Hartford; a sister, Zilda Bauchman of Southington; three grandsons and wives, Paul and Candace Grillo, Dr.

Harold R. Ruick, 74, of 129 Hungary Road, Granby, husband of the late Marie (McKenna) Ruick, died Wednesday (Oct. 25) at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Windsor, he had lived in Granby for most of his life.

Before retiring in 1977, he was employed as a welder for. Pratt Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, for 27 years. He was a member of the Granby Senior Citizens. He leaves a son, Robert M. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (DiGiodomenico) Tomassetti, and was a lifelong Meriden resident. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Meriden. She is survived by two sons, Paul F. Scalzi, and Andrew J. Scalzi; a daughter, Mary S.

Connaughton, all of Meriden; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew P. Scalzi, who was the founder of the Yellow Cab Meriden, which is still operated by the Scalzi family. Funeral will be Saturday, 10 a.m., from the SmithRuzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Born in Orangeburg, S.C., he was a resident of Hartford for many years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was an employee of the Department of Defense. He is survived by a daughter, Renee Shaw of Springfield, four sisters, Johnnie Mae Williams, Eunice Isaac, both of New York, Lurine Pollard, and Elaine Allen, both of New Jersey; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends.

Funeral service will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at the Clark, Bell Perkins Funeral Home, 319 Barbour with burial in Soldier's Field, Wilson, with full military honors. Charles J. Pedersen, 85; chemist won Nobel Prize SALEM, N.J. Charles J. Pedersen, a co-winner of the 1987 Nobel Prize in chemistry for a discovery that enabled scientists to create complex organic compounds, died Thursday after a lengthy illness.

He was 85. Pedersen, who lived alone, died around 9:30 a.m. in his Salem home, said Justin Carisio, a spokesman for Pedersen's former employer, E.I. Du Pont Nemours and Co. Pedersen had a form of blood cancer and Parkinson's disease, Carisio said.

Pedersen was awarded the Nobel Prize in October 1987. He was cited for his pioneering work nearly 25 years previously in discovering crown ethers, molecules that make it possible to synthesize many com- Associated Press plex organic compounds that imitate the behavior of natural proteins. Pedersen was one of the few Nobel winners in the sciences who had never earned a doctorate or a professorship. His highest academic degree was a masters from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A self-described "hands-on" industrial chemist, Pedersen spent his 42-year career at Du Pont in New Jersey and Delaware, where his research yielded 65 patents, mostly in petrochemicals.

Pedersen was born in Korea of a Norwegian father and a Japanese mother. He moved to the United States when he was 17. Pedersen is survived by two daughters, Shirley Evans of Salem, N.J., and Barbara Cleaveland of Alexandria, Va. Thomas V. Hines; was active in town affairs in Enfield HINES.

Thomas V. Hines, 76, of 1280 Enfield Enfield, died Wednes(Oct. 25), area nursing home. He was barn in Phillipsburg, N.J., and lived in Enfield for the past 43 years. He was a member of Holy Family Church, Enfield.

He graduated from Lafayette College, Easton, Pa. as a civil engineer. Formerly employed by the Town of Longmeadow, MacNeish Architects of West Springfield, and Reinhart Associates in Springfield, he retired in 1974. Mr. Hines was a U.S.

Army veteran of World War II, having served as a 1st lieutenant on the 840th Engineering Aviation Battalion. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Patrick F. Triggs Post No. 1501, a member of the American Legion, and the Forty and Eights in Longmeadow, Mass. Mr.

Hines was former Vice Chairman of the Enfield Democratic Committee for many years, also former Chairman of the Enfield Planning and Zoning Committee. Mr. Hines was also former Chairman of the Enfield Charter Revision Committee, and a member of the Enfield Housing Code Board of Appeals. He was also member of the Commission on Aging, and a volunteer of the Enfield Daycare Center for the Town of Enfield. He leaves his wife, Eleanor Sheridan Hines; a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Guy MacKenzie of Springfield, a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Carmen Hines of Los Angelos, a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Shelby Hines of Wilbraham, and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday, 8:45 a.m., at Browne Memorial Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, and 9:30 a.m., at Holy Family Church, Simon Road, Enfield. HUGHES. Corinna Hughes, 78, wife of the late Harry L. Hughes, of 170 Sisson Hartford, departed this life Tuesday (Oct. 24) in John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington. She was born Dec.

30, in Jacksonville, to the late Mr. and Mrs. David and Mary Carter, and was a resident of Hartford for 73 years. She was a member of Church of Christ, Hartford, past treasurer of the church, board of Trustees of Asylum Hill Organization Project (A.H.O.P.), past treasurer and secretary of the Tenants Association of Shepherd Park, a member of various social and political organizations in the Hartford area, and Justice of the Peace. She is survived by three sons, George Carter of Hartford, David Hughes of Chapin, S.C., and Ralph Hughes of New Haven; two daughters, Catherine Sutton of Bloomfield, and Lucille Lee of Hartford; two brothers, David Carter of Hartford, and Charles Carter of Port Charles, a sister, Rose Brown of Hartford; 32 grandchildren; many greatgrandchildren, great-greatgrandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

26, 1989) at Manchester Memorial Hospital. She was born in Hartford, Nov. 4, 1904, and had been a resident of Manchester since the early 1920's. She was a longtime member of the South United Methodist Church, Manchester, and was a very active member of the church's Stanley Club. She son survived by a daughter and Jean and Richard Clay of South Windsor; her stepfather, John Works of Manchester; five grandchildren, three great and a niece.

Funeral service will be Saturday, Oct. 28, 11 a.m., at the Watkins Funeral Home, 142 E. Center Manchester. Burial will be in the East Cemetery. Calling hours are today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Hines, who was active in town affairs in Enfield for many years, died Wednesday at a local nursing home. He was 76 and lived in Enfield. He was a former chairman of both the planning and zoning committee and the charter revision committee.

He had served on the housing code board of appeals and the commission on aging. He was a volunteer at the Enfield Daycare Center and a former vice chairman of the Democratic town committee. Before retiring in 1974, he worked for the town of Longmeadow, MacNeish Architects of West Springfield, and Reinhart Associates in Springfield. He was born in Phillipsburg, N.J., and graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, as a civil engineer. He was a U.S.

Army veteran of World War II who belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Patrick F. Triggs Post No. 1501; the American Legion; and the Forty and Eights in Longmeadow. He had lived for the past 43 years in Enfield, where he was a member of Holy Family Church. Hines was the husband of Eleanor Sheridan Hines.

He also leaves a daughter, Theresa MacKenzie of Springfield; two sons, Mark Hines of Los Angelos and Charles Hines of Wilbraham, and four grandchildren. Services held for Marian Arnold A memorial service was held Thursday in Massachusetts for Marian L. Arnold, who served as executive director of the Connecticut Dairy and Food Council for 25 years before retiring in 1973. Arnold died Monday at home after a brief illness. She was 78.

She had lived in Truro, where she had moved from Hartford in 1976. The service was held in the Truro Congregational Church. Arnold joined the council in its New Haven office in 1945. She became executive director of the statewide organization, which stresses health education, three years later.
